Serenade to Music: Vaughan Williams

Product Description

With words from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, singing this music by Ralph Vaughan Williams would be a wonderful way to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of the world’s greatest playwright.

Composed in 1938, the piece was written as a tribute to Sir Henry Wood.  Sir Henry assisted in the selection of the 16 soloists for whom each vocal line was specifically composed.  He then went on to conduct the premier performance at the Royal Albert Hall.  His orchestra drew players from the three eminent London orchestras and marked the fiftieth anniversary of Sir Henry’s inaugural concert at that prestigious venue.

The serenade is approximately 13 minutes in duration.  It is published by Oxford University Press.
